Is QA org a separate vertical operating across different portfolios or is it distributed in each portfolio and detached from other portfolios in the same organisation ?

You're unlikely to get many good answers without reading a management textbook. Actual management / organizational procedures that are in place at companies are often considered to be sensitive proprietary information and should not be disclosed. After all, if a company financially benefits from having a good organizational practice, why should they share it with you for free? – allquixotic Aug 7 '12 at 17:29
