I am looking for an automation tool, that I can use to automate the testing of a desktop 3d design application.

Without knowing anything about your requirements other than "desktop 3d design", it's pretty hard to give a reasonable answer.

We use WinTask for much of our automation. It's possible that you could use it for your application, too.
