comment How do you write clear, succinct test charters for exploratory testing sessions?
Thanks Ben, good advice again. I like the two heuristics :). I'd agree it's a better use of time to pair a novice tester with someone more experienced rather than trying to make charters for a novice.

Good spot @user246 - they're almost exact duplicates. Perhaps worth merging the two?

comment How do you organise and manage testing charters?
Thanks Ben! Our team is growing, so I'm interested in hearing how people organise things, as we might want ideas if our current approach (which is pretty lightweight - constant communication helps us keep it that way) doesn't scale.

Note: The above is actually a question I asked over at the old Software Testing Club Exchange (as best I can remember it). It gained a lot of very valuable answers there - if I could migrate it over I would, but the site no longer exists.

comment What proficiency should a software tester have in SQL?
I guess this just shows how different context can be: I'd say it's always been a core skill in the environments I've worked in. Not necessarily always at an advanced level, but at least basic familiarity was essential, and in some projects more advanced skills were essential.

I've closed this to avoid confusion, seeing as it hasn't had any answers yet - I guess you asked the same question on both sites?

@pete-hodgson Could you suggest some edits to the question that would make that distinction clearer? I'd like to hear why you'd want to use different tools, and what the differences would be. As it stands at the moment, I'd agree with user246's assessment - it's a question better asked of Google rather than SQA. Maybe you could help to improve it?

No worries, thanks for the edit. Hopefully someone will be able to answer without forking out £170!

Okay, well, in order to get useful replies, I'd suggest that you edit your original question to include that information. Because that's how it reads currently - you're asking for a favour here (i.e. you want people to put time into writing you an answer), don't make us guess! :)

what's the reason for the unit tests tag? Your question doesn't mention unit testing specifically, so I'm confused why you've dropped it into that category.

comment What resources will help me understand the data model for QC 10.0 in order to write my SQL queries?
Okay thanks srihari - that's a lot more useful. Now that I know you're confident in SQL generally, I know that I don't need to add general SQL tips here. I don't use QC myself any more, so I can't help you with understanding its data model, but I've added the extra information you gave us to the title and the question body, to help attract people who might be able to help you. (Most people don't click on all questions, so it's really worth working on making the title as informative and accurate as possible).
