comment Developers have code kata to practice skills. What test equivalents are there?
Finally accepted an answer for this - was torn between Bruce and Justin's, finally accepted Justin's as there were a lot of useful links for Weekend Testing, test challenges, Test Dojos, etc.

comment What programming languages are good for novice testers to learn?
(note: this comment is from @mohammed-sameeh - it was added as an answer because a new user doesn't have enough points to comment yet. I think it's a good question, I wondered that too!) "dmitry Zhariy why Windows Batch Files scripting is important for tester"

comment How should you interview for QA positions?
+1 for some great refs - have read the Paul Carvalho article and it's excellent, really useful for explaining to folks that you get testers, and you get testers, and that mate they know who's a tester may be great in their environment but is a terrible, terrible fit for yours.

Hi Dave - welcome to SQA! I edited to add the info you gave in your second answer - I'll go delete that now otherwise it'll get confusing :)

Jasmine, I'd agree with the other commenters. You don't actually have a question here that anyone can answer. SQA isn't meant for general chatting and discussion (go to chat.stackexchange.com for that) - it's meant to be about specific questions and answers. If you were posting in a general discussion forum this might be an okay way to start a discussion, but it doesn't really fit here. My suggestion would be that if you want to learn more, start by trying out the suggestions on the link you posted, then come back with actual questions about problems you run into doing that.

Hey, interesting - I've never come across that one before! Thanks for the rec - and welcome to the site Peter :) Think I recognise the name from STC?

comment What learning resources are there for testers who want to study Systems Thinking?
Fair point - I'm not at all trying to suggest that systems thinking is only useful to testers. What I wanted to do with this question was to try to gather resource recs for testers who want to study systems thinking as a topic in itself. I believe that being able to use the vocabulary and concepts of systems thinking to examine testing problems may be helpful, even if some of those concepts seem sorta familiar when you first start reading about them (and a lot really should be, for any tester who's been paying attention). Thanks for the feedback - I'll think about how to improve the question
