comment Should QA be able to code tests?
You still need to know what the pieces you're putting together mean. Otherwise you don't know what your test is really doing. Yes, you can start at the "writing scenarios" level and gradually get more familiar with implementing them, but having been learning Cucumber I wouldn't ever ever recommend a tester just "plug the bits together" - better to pair an inexperienced coder with an experienced coder, then they can learn.

comment How to do integrated testing?
Thanks for the flags @ckenst user246 and others - the dupe was temporary and deliberate, I asked Prog.SE to migrate the question so we could merge them here, rather than have questions duplicated across sites. Generally considered better to migrate questions to the right home rather than to cross-post, apologies for any confusion in the interim.

@ChrisF This would fit well over at SQA.SE, the cross-post has also gathered answers now. I guess if this is migrated, we can merge the questions.

comment Anybody know of any tools for tailing a users path through the logs please?
Doesn't sound familiar - have just used a shell script for this purpose previously. Could you provide a bit more info about the environments? E.g. O/S, webservers, etc?

I joined when I took the course, I'd been intending to join for a while though so I finally got round to it. I went for the lifetime when I renewed!

comment Developers have code kata to practice skills. What test equivalents are there?
Finally accepted an answer for this - was torn between Bruce and Justin's, finally accepted Justin's as there were a lot of useful links for Weekend Testing, test challenges, Test Dojos, etc.

(note: this comment is from @mohammed-sameeh - it was added as an answer because a new user doesn't have enough points to comment yet. I think it's a good question, I wondered that too!) "dmitry Zhariy why Windows Batch Files scripting is important for tester"

comment How should you interview for QA positions?
+1 for some great refs - have read the Paul Carvalho article and it's excellent, really useful for explaining to folks that you get testers, and you get testers, and that mate they know who's a tester may be great in their environment but is a terrible, terrible fit for yours.

Hi Dave - welcome to SQA! I edited to add the info you gave in your second answer - I'll go delete that now otherwise it'll get confusing :)
