Hi @david-plante - welcome to SQA! I'd like to answer, as at my current company all testers code, but not all of them started out as coders. But I'd like to understand first - what non-coding testing tasks have you got? Are you proposing that all tests will be automated now, or is it just that you feel you need more of the testers contributing to be able to build your automation suite?

comment Python or Ruby , Which has the better support for selenium
I actually use Ruby and love it, but +1 for "you don't have to use the same language - use the language in which your team will be more productive". For us, this is why we picked Ruby and are happy with it. (As a benefit, later on our Ops team picked Chef, so we now have more Ruby experts on hand).
