Can you ask the client and managers what they want to see and why? Can you start a conversation with them?

Yeh, my question was below his comment :)

comment What practices are used to avoid constantly testing the login screen in web driver tests?
so your real issue is that your tests are taking a long time? Are your devs doing unit tests or are you testing everything using integration tests?

so cant the devs test these areas without having to do the whole integration test?

You're not really 'testing' the login function though are you, it's likely to be the same login every time and you will have seperate distinct tests that actually test out the authentication?

What industry do you work in - for safety critical and some other domains there could be a need for recorded evidence

If it's an old legacy app does that mean you can find out what parts of the system the users actually use and what parts they never touch?

comment How to check no. of characters accepted by an input field using Selenium WebDriver?
Why don't you either ask the devs or do a one-time manual test to find out? Are you trying to automate finding out how many characters it accepts?

comment Decoupling Unit Tests
From the article you link to "You’ve definitely taken a wrong turn if you have to run your tests in a specific order, or if they only work when your database or network connection is active". What exactly are you trying to test? What is the purpose of each test?

Because "it depends". Capers Jones can probably trot out studies that show 1000 lines of code will have 2.5 defects - but it depends on the project, the experience of the devs and so many other factors that I find it useless.

Is it possible to automate the part that scans or does it have to be done manually?
