comment What testing procedures/software would you recommend?
Agreed. Rather than jump to the "automate everything!" solution, you should spend some time analyzing your problem. Maybe there are other incremental ways you can improve the development lifecycle.

@Webnet Selenium is an API for developing automated tests for browser-delivered applications. Unless you're already a developer with knowledge of how to install and leverage an API, Selenium is going to be very confusing for you.

comment Watir, Selenium::WebDriver for Chrome?
I ran into a similar problem with chromedriver on Windows. I was able to dig into the stacktrace, which showed me where in the Webdriver code it was failing. Turned out the chromedriver wasn't placed in a directory in the PATH. I recommend you dig into the stacktrace--if available--and see if there's more info in there. Post what you find and we'll help out.

@PeterK. In our case, we use Local, Dev, QA, and Production. Local is indeed possible, but obviously you have to configure it correctly.

comment Upgrade SilkTest automation scripts to work with IE9
You could use this opportunity to switch to Selenium. It's a more robust framework and can run against most versions of most browsers. I realize that switching your automation tool is a big deal. But it's worth it!

Yeah, but the cool factor is high. Isn't that reason enough to do it? :)

comment Whether to choose Selenium over Watir or Lightweight Test Automation when testing web applications created using c sharp?
+1 for your remarks on record/playback. I really wish vendor salespeople would keep their mouths shut on that front. They're tricking IT managers into thinking it's a sustainable solution :(

comment Is there a commonly used functional test runner/reporter that is lightweight/simple?
Yeah, based on the requirements in the question it will probably be just as much work configuring an OTS solution as inventing an in-house one.

comment Running WatiN Tests in TFS Build
Can you clarify: How do you normally invoke your Watin tests? And which TFS project are they in?

comment What test management tool to manage Cucumber tests?
If I've understood right, you can use Cucumber to run your Gherkin tests. So I guess it's just a question of how you go about invoking Cucumber. If you've got your CI server working, it shouldn't be too hard to add a "build" step that will execute your Gherkin tests.

What's your general deployment strategy? Do you have Dev, QA, and production environments? And yes, deployment to IIS is complicated. But it IS doable, via msbuild. Google around for msbuild/iis deployment options and you'll find info on how to do it.

comment Is there any full Python webdriver API documentation?
Yeah, I ran into the same problem. You can, however, obtain the Python library and run pydoc on it. The comments are in there; unfortunately the Selenium Python documentation is not autogenerated and published :(
