comment MTBF for a software product
Ah ah... that's the problem. We got a request from a client to supply MTBF numbers, the request went through our long chain of command and was broken to pieces (many teams, each gives their number) so asking back what did they mean is useless. I also know that it's not uncommon for marketing people not to know what they are asking for...

comment what should I do if my stability tests cycle is longer than the release cycle ?
We can't do concurrent testing due to limited resources (isn't it always ?) of all kinds- testers, device, test equipment. The cycle can't be shortened much without loosing its significancy, it consists of several common use cases, each taking a day to complete. The problem is not efficiency.

comment MTBF for a software product
Wikipedia was the first place I read. Although their definition is probably correct it has holes in it- - Do I calculate up time on a single version or since the beginning of time? - Is number of failures equals number of bugs or should take into consideration the expected frequency of the bug ? - What if my up time is a collection of short runs ?

comment Is testing a product your company uses different than a product shipped to customers ?
"Good Enough"is really pain in the... I can only guess that when management knows that a bug will directly hurt their pocket they will not use this term.

I am testing a communication stack (hardware, drivers Etc.), we want to test it under real life scenarios.
