comment How to continue script when element is not found in selenium
Having if/then/else constructs in the test is an anti-pattern to me. The test should describe one execution path and avoid any logic. If something blocks this execution path, then fail fast, as suggested. If you want to cover multiple execution paths then create multiple tests where each covers one execution path.

comment What are my options for generating a Selenium script?
Agreed with Peter Masiar. 90% of what you need are page objects and Selenium IDEs do not generate PageObjects.

Can you link where Martin Fowler said so? Seems like a good read for me :-)

comment How can I test Web service without any automation tool and only using manual
GET requests can be tested with just Web browser, POST, DELETE, PUT request will require tool, e.g. Postman plugin for browser or curl command line tool. There's no way to do this without any tool because you're actually mimicking a machine, a programmed client.

What type of Web service? REST? SOAP?

Well, from my short experience, any end-to-end tests will be flakey, see Google take on that: googletesting.blogspot.com/2015/04/… You can get a better ROI from making part of your tests on lower levels, e.g. on backend API.

comment What skills technical testers candidates are missing?
Question. Are there studies at CS in your area that are dedicated more for testers rather than for devs?

comment What skills technical testers candidates are missing?
Regarding troubleshooting. Agreed, this requires domain knowledge, but not always. If you have experience with testing apps on Tomcat server, I expect you to know where the logs are and what are the differences between them. Steps to reproduce are obviously enough. But as a developer I would prefer a tester who knows whether to bother me (code issue) or Ops (DB or external system is down).

comment How can I automate a test scenario of account expiry or account at different time transition?
Well, manipulating VM time is kind of artificial: what if the system is checks expiration time 5 seconds before deadline and you set it to the deadline? It will miss the deadline. It's also dangerous if you have other tests running in the system in parallel.

comment Tools for REST webservice testing
What do you mean by Standard testing tool for QA? What is standard for me will not necessarily be standard for you. Are you asking for alternatives? For instance, we use a number of tools, depending on the context: curl command-line tool for quick bug reproduction, RESTAssured Java library for HTTP-level automated tests and Retrofit Java library for business-level automated tests.

comment Will learning selenium add value to my career?
I still don't agree. There are different paths in a career. I know successful and satisfied testers that hasn't moved to automation but to business analysis.

"Tester should move to automation after 3 or 4 years", because? You have found it carved somewhere in stone?
