I know why I am a tester. My driving force is my curiosity: I want to know how things work, why they work and why they don't.

comment Unittesting GUI. MVC model. When to move data to controller
Could you provide a source of information claiming MVC is the best pattern for GUI unit testing? Many claims that another pattern, MVP lends better for testing, because access to View is through interface that certainly ease mocking. This is also the reason why Google's GWT followed MVP pattern.

comment Should we reject QA candidates based on basic reasoning and math tests?
@Raf, Your answer is irrelevant to the original question. If you're seeking for an advice how to get on well with the team and get recognition, I would try e.g., at workplace.stackexchange.com.

comment Is QC effective for QA teams that write their own test automation solutions?
@Ikaso, I'm confused. You're searching for software for: (a) test execution automation, (b) automation of test result reporting, (c) managing testing iterations, (d) traceability between requirements and tests? or something else? Could you then update your question to make it more focused?

Before anyone closes as off-topic, I would love to hear whether @KevinM could look for an answer on such topic? What are relevant on-topic places/fora on the Web to ask this question?

There are no short answers to your question. Re: 1) Read questions on this site. You will learn what people in SQA are tasked with. Re: 2) Google "tester us salary" gives lots of responses.

There's a number of questions in your post, some more explicit: 1) scope of SQA, 2) salary for SQA in US, and some more implicit: 3) what's your motivations for testing position, 4) what's your criteria for career path: money? prestige? team-mates? self-development, etc. I don't know what is the right path for you, but this site and programmers.stackexchange.com are full similar questions and useful answers. One thing is clear for me: not knowing only what is SQA would not be a reason to move to development. It would be rather a reason to find an answer first :-)
