comment How to determine whether a WebElement is a child of another WebElement?
You can also use other By methods such as ClassName, CssSelector, etc. (not only XPath) to locate the child or parent element.

comment How can I automate testing of HTTP requests?
I've finally had time to try this and it worked. Also I found a very useful .Net library for working with Selenium and BrowserMob proxy by Adrian Hills and David Burns here: AdaTheDev

Thanks - that's useful to know. I'll certainly look into contributing some documentation too.

Thanks. I did search but didn't spot that question. I'll take a look and see if it helps.

comment Problem catching Selenium Webdriver NoSuchElementException
I tried this and it worked to avoid the exception. I'm still curious as to why the NoSuchElementException isn't caught by my code above - perhaps a problem with the NoSuchElementException class itself? But it's much better to avoid the exception being thrown at all, so thanks for the solution :)

I've tried the above both with Chrome and Firefox but unfortunately without success. The Chrome driver doesn't accept DesiredCapabilities as an argument. It does accept ChromeOptions - and I was able to set options that affected the browser (such as --start-maximized), but there isn't an option to minimize or open in background. Thanks for your help though!

Thanks, I'm using Firefox, Chrome and IE9 so I'll give this a try with Chrome and let you know how it goes.

Being fairly new to programming (and QA) I was hoping there might be some simple solution within the WebDriver API, and I'd prefer not to use a 3rd-party tool. I guess I might be out of luck though. A useful link - thanks.
