comment How do you wait for jQuery Ajax calls to complete in Selenium 2
This is awesome. I'm ripping all the Thread.Sleep() out of the tests for my AJAX-heavy web application under test now, and this seems to be working.

comment How do I start the Internet Explorer WebDriver for Selenium in Python?
I agree with Phil, but will add that it sounds like the import might be failing. Make sure you have Selenium installed (e.g. pip install selenium).

comment How to fix intermittent typing problems with send_keys?
It's still failing with my new method of clicking outside the find area instead of sending an ESCAPE or TAB. It failed differently this time. Instead of repeating part of the word, it just stopped typing. See: i.imgur.com/0GA3u.png -- the text should have been 'Hashcode:9AA5F1085C9E8E8FBCB3D4B9E7A6E47F'. It's still quite intermittent: 1 in 1,150 searches.

Sam, that's a good idea. I will put that on my to do list. Do you know if there's some kind of debug logging I could enable to get more info when it happens?

It's always that same textbox. There is auto-complete in that box, but it should only be popping up when there's a pause in typing, which there isn't for send_keys. And it's odd that the other 113 searches are fine. If it were autocomplete interfering, I'd expect it to happen a lot more.

comment How to fix intermittent typing problems with send_keys?
Sam, that's a good thought, but unfortunately it isn't possible. I have it running inside a dedicated VM, and kick off my Python test manager + nose + Selenium framework from Scheduled Tasks, so there's literally only the Firefox windows open. I guess it's possible that it's a Windows Update popup? But those only show in the tray; I don't think they steal focus.

Neat. Thanks. I will try it out.

Looks awesome, but I can't afford the $9900 license. :-)

Second question: I see I can record navigation through an HTTP proxy. Would that let me record textarea input for my search? Or does JMeter only do simple static content loading?

I have heard about Jmeter but not tried it yet. Can it do operations that are behind a login? Our product is an HTTPS site that users have to login to.

Oh, you're THAT guy! Ha. Yep, I'm leaving for the MAX to head out to Lucky Lab in just a few minutes!

comment Do I need the PageObjects design pattern or not?
Yeah, I'm already getting both benefits of your #1. Our app does have multiple sections (it's not a single page app), and I have 500 lines of functions in app_func to perform actions on those pages. I can see your point about #2, though. There's probably some brittleness in my app_func if Selenium were to change how it did things.

comment How to fix 'Access is denied' errors when trying to .quit() Chrome in Selenium WebDriver tests?
Sam, is there an 'official' forum for Selenium you could link me to? Or at least whichever one is the most highly-trafficed / likely to get responses? Thanks.

comment Less “hackish” way to do fast input (faster send_keys) in WebDriver besides JavaScript execution?
That makes sense. I am going to do it that way. Our product supports searching via the URL. I will put example code in my question above. These comment boxes can't do multi-line code samples.

I'm inputing a large string into a textarea. I'll edit my question above with a code sample.

Thanks. I might try to do it with the Python requests module.

comment WebDriver function failing intermittently in Internet Explorer near clear() method
No, there's no JavaScript at all, and it fails in other places too. It's just WebDriver being flaky with IE.

comment WebDriver function failing intermittently in Internet Explorer near clear() method
No, it still fails intermittently even with the detection I put in place. Particularly Internet Explorer. WebDriver's not great about waiting for the complete page to load sometimes.

comment WebDriver function failing intermittently in Internet Explorer near clear() method
Got an error message: WebDriverException: Message: 'Message: u\'Element must not be hidden, disabled or read-only\'. So I am going to try putting in a check for enabled/visible just before the .clear()

comment WebDriver API: 'Failed to send keys because cannot focus element' — better workaround than using Firefox instead of Chrome?
That might work, although the WebDriver people recommend against it here: code.google.com/p/selenium/wiki/…?
