Business Analyst for a Big 4 accounting firm. I work regularly in SQL and VBA, trying to learn C# and do more programming.

Resources for test automation I want to look at existing packages to see if there is something out there that can do what I need. I've been looking at TestComplete and haven't been too pleased with some things, but the only place where there seems to be much discussion is on the SmartBear forums (company who makes the tool). QTP is another tool we're looking at, although I haven't evaluated it yet. There just isn't a whole lot out there in the way of user champions comparing these tools or tutorials on how to get the most out of them like you find with "regular" software devs. |

Is it effective to have the tester of the software also be the business analyst? Yes, I do find myself at opposing ends of the spectrum, having to be both the person who needs to question the state of the system and the one who advocates for its validity. Being on both ends is definitely what is causing me difficulty. |

Is it effective to have the tester of the software also be the business analyst? No formal training in testing. The company's policy is that business analysts will write the test cases and do most of the testing. The expectation in the group is that the analysts will pick up just about any task except for programming. My main concern is my lack of objectivity as the designer of the application. I agree about the really busy part - often testing is not given the priority it should be given in the grand scheme of things. |
