Any personal experiences on EggPlant, cross platform and application automated testing tool? If it is anything like Tevron's Citratest (also image-based, cross platform), it could be interesting but maintenance is a pain sometimes. Image change issues can be mitigating by building a good activity-based library (e.g. create order function) which will mean changing one image updates multiple test scripts. |

How to version a RFT project If the map was modified by more than one resource and subversion attempted to merge the maps on commit, the single line map would fail during the diff. I'll add this to the question to give a bit more detail. |

How do I educate that it's not test automation framework? I would rather be 'agile' than 'Agile' with my process. |

What techniques are available to determine which browsers to test? I wish I could give multiple votes for this one. |

How to version a RFT project We used a similar setup, but when committing object maps, Subversion saw them as a single line XML file. We converted the file to a multi-line format, but whenever we changed the map, RFT wrote it out as a single line again. Did you experience anything like this? |

How do you calculate your return on investment on automated tests? @testerab are automated tests really supposed to find new bugs? As you say, regression tests mainly exist to make sure old bugs don't return. Exploratory testing (which really can't be fully replaced with automated tests) is what will find new bugs and utilize human variation to its fullest. |

How do I convince management that we need a formal QA department? +1 for fixing/finding the issues earlier in the lifecycle. Finding a bug at the developer level cost pennies to fix when compared to one found in production. In addition, once the bug comes up in prod, the cost is not always monetary; loss of company reputation, sales, trust - if the problem is notable enough, these make the dollar cost of QA look low...just ask Toyota. |
