How do you test for everything that could go wrong? There's definitely a difference between having a dedicated QA team and a few people who just happen to be around. Having dedicated testers would be quite helpful here. |

What programming languages are good for novice testers to learn? Definitely a good tip on languages with/without pointers. Of course, going the other way (C++ to C# for example) is awesome! |

What benefit does having developer experience or background have on the effectiveness of a tester? I think there's plenty of people like this: some specific coding skills, lots of nonspecific technical and "soft" skills. Some of these people would make outstanding testers, so this is a great question! |

Favorite troubleshooting tips for testers? I always like the idea of "testing as a conversation". Making findings public can help with this. |

Can someone be a good automated tester and be terrible programmer? I'm pleasantly surprised by the warm encouraging and professional responses to this question. Perhaps I was being a bit too tough on myself, but I also thought this is an interesting question. +10 to the SQA community here! |

Should automated tests be efficient? This really makes me wish I had either many machines/licenses at my disposal (I don't) or a massive parallel computing cluster I could use (I don't, but used to once upon a time). |

Should automated tests be efficient? This is actually a great tip. I've also come across tests that always passed. After wising up to things, I took a look at the test bodies: the whole thing was commented out, so the test did nothing. Clearly they always pass :) |

Testing Unfamiliar Software +1 for Technical ability vs Domain knowledge. That is a really helpful distinction, and one I'll keep in mind from now on. |
