Does automating your manual tests give you good automated tests? How do we merge this answer with the Wiki? i think the combination of Kate's observations here with the points in the community Wiki make a more complete answer. |

Does automating your manual tests give you good automated tests? The first point here is EXPECIALLY important when it comes to automating GUI validations. Does the check box have the right color, is everything spelled right, does the tab order on screen work right, etc. All this stuff takes a LONG time to code for when a human can quickly popup the screen, do a few simple tasks, and then sign off. |

Will the new ISO/IEC 29119 Software Testing standard work with agile methodologies like Scrum? I agree with Mr. Y that we do need some sort of standard, but as @James points out below, the standard being created is being done by people who, themselves, are not testers and, therefore not qualified to come up with software testing standards. So, I'm down voting this answer as it is reactionary instead of an objective answer and it is not well researched |

When is it OK not to have dedicated testers/QA team? Ya know... for some reason, it seems rather odd to me that, at the time of this comment, seeing James Bach with only a rep of 91. |

When is it OK not to have dedicated testers/QA team? That much I agree with. Unfortunately, I have yet to experience that in practice. |

How do I write a script to be executed by Hudson to automatically restart test environment machines? Reworded question title |

What additional benefits does an QA /Developer engineer bring to a project That goes back to the question sqa.stackexchange.com/q/545/453 of how testers and developer mindsets differ. Again, a tester could have a developer mindset as well and vice versa. What this means is that BOTH mindsets are necessary to build good, robust, full-coverage tests. |

Fitting regression testing in a Agile/ Scrum development cycle Automation should itself be a task in Kanban/Scrum. It's possible to get to the end of a sprint and not have all tasks on the sprint done but supposedly, while you're running the sprint, you prioritize things so that stuff for any one user story is not half done. That allows you to ship SOME. Anything left over is backlogged to the next sprint, that includes automation. The problem I've run into is that automation, while backlogged, is then never prioritized as a "top" item ever again and, therefore, never gets done. This is a project management problem in that case. |

What are some tools for fuzz testing? "Good" is a subjective term. Would it be better to just simply ask "What tools are available for fuzz testing with Ruby, JavaScript or Python?" |

How do I write a script to be executed by Hudson to automatically restart test environment machines? I wonder if this question should be reworded. First of all, the very question in the body asks for the opinion and best method to access the machines. That's subjective content. Secondly, it seems that Rakesh is not looking for "best" but for a specific python or batch script. The question might do best reworded as "How can I write a python or batch script to automatically reboot testing machines through Hudson"? |

What benefit does having developer experience or background have on the effectiveness of a tester? This is the best answer of the ones provided because it gives a good description of the pros and cons of testers that can read code and some practical examples of them. I like @Joe's answer as well as it does mention that code understanding is a requirement for all testers. |

When is it OK not to have dedicated testers/QA team? Re: Dedicated team. Isn't some of that adversarial approach necessary? While I, as a tester, want to stay on the good graces of the developers, at the same time there needs to be a separation of accountability. Testers need an advocate for them on a supervisor level that is not going to, by nature, side with developers as there are times when a tester will need someone with a tester mindset to argue their case for them towards development staff. |

How do you calculate the number of virtual concurrent users to use in a load test given data on actual site traffic? It's a good answer. But for many "newbies" to the whole load testing thing, the specific forumlas and decision thought processes and such are very helpful in test design. |
