@dzieciou, yes, in both cases, you’ve correctly described what I’ve tried to say. A case study, for me, is an invitation for discussion. The case might have an answer when it was created, but it should be not the only answer. Taking the risks into account might be not so important for big projects with 30 testers, lots of devs and management, but it can be important on small projects with 2 - 3 testers.

@dzieciou, no, I have no real practical experience working with MBT. Only theoretical one. On my current project we are not using such approach.

comment Should I re-test fix at system level when the issue is at unit level?
And yes, the developers are lazy bi**hes. The laziest ones are write unit tests just not to do the manual checks, create the build automation because they were bored to do that manually, write on C#/Java and uses JavaScript frameworks instead of writing all the things in C++ or Assembler. Yes, all the developers should be lazy.

Bj, but please do not take my words in negative context. The most of developers I've met are great professional people. But they are people. Ok, I will rephrase: Do not trust any people, even yourself. When I do something important, I always re-check my work. Some times the small mistakes at the beginning may lead to a great time waste at the end.

comment Is FitNesse the only DSL for Selenium, or is there another DSL available?
David, if Robot Framework works for you – then I have nothing to argue. If there is really good team where automation architects helps less skilled QA to create complex keywords – that is just a good teamwork and the way to build good test automation. The same approach would work fine even if your less skilled QA works with pure Python. But any tool will not help if it was given to less skilled QA without any support from skilled Automation Engineers/Developers

comment Xpath captured using Selenium IDE is not running in Selenium RC for Links designed in XML
1. Can you successfully re-run the test in the Selenium IDE after you have closed and reopened the webpage? 2. Try to install and investigate the problem with Firebug Addon

Also, please check out this page: agile-wiki.wikispaces.com/Comparing+SpecFlow+and+Fitnesse Fitnesse also has its advantages and many successful automation teams are using it. Specflow fits better for my project than Fitnesse, but my coworkers from parallel projects are happy with Fitnesse. Both projects are enterprise solutions written in .NET.

comment What programming languages are good for novice testers to learn?
The Windows Batch scripting saves a lot of time. I am installing my application under test using the msiexec, copying the predefined config files automatically after the installation, downloading the recent builds from the overseas servers, backuping and restoring the oracle DB in one click. Why should I do all this routine operations manually? I am automating them with batch files and command line tools. Instead of Batch files you also can use Powershell, JScript etc. but I prefer to automate my tasks using batch. And it saves my working hours each day.

comment How to check that some string contains a substring in the unit test code?
Hi Sam, I need some statistics on how the developers and automated testers are implementing this case. It is not about any technical details, so, for instance, you already have a variable expectedSubstring = “Hello World” and actualTitle = “hello world – Google Search”.
