comment How to report an issue to Developer about a bug that occurs seldom
Good answer. I have found that it's more important to report the fact that there is a bug, and to include what you do know about it, than to worry that you don't know the specific steps to make it reproducible. Often, others are in a better position than the tester to make it reproducible. allthingsquality.com/2010/04/non-reproducible-bugs.html

comment Best practices for managing code duplication?
"my experience is that there are no best practices anywhere" - bravo! There are no best practices. There are many "practices which have proven good in some contexts, but may not be good in others". No best practices. No silver bullets. No magic numbers. We each have to decide what works well in our specific situation, at our specific point in time. allthingsquality.com/2010/04/… BTW - what's the best color?

comment Issue tracking - project version tracking
@JamesStuddart - then manual is the way to go. Create a central document that everyone can access containing the "current" build number. Everyone who creates a build increments this number, then uses it. No more "disjointed" build numbers.

A build server is the best way. Manually setting the build number to match some centrally agreed-upon value would work as well.

Is there a reason you don't want to fix the "disjointed build number" problem first, and use more team-wide build number that has real meaning?
