comment Should we reject QA candidates based on basic reasoning and math tests?
Huh? So you are a world class tester who loves to solve puzzles, but are thinking of a career change because you didn't get enough recognition? Perhaps it's the language, but I'm having a hard time understanding how this reply is relevant to the original poster's question. Sorry.

comment What programming languages are good for novice testers to learn?
AutoIT is a good tool. I've used it in the past. However, I'm pretty sure that AutoIT is freeware, but not open source. See: autoitscript.com/autoit3/docs/license.htm

comment What is a good KPI for software QA?
@Bruce - I mostly agree. Which is why I always try to hitch my "testing wagon" to a winning team. You can't test success into a product. And it's hard to feel good about a great testing job if the rest of the company sucks. Still, I can't necessarily call your list "KPI's for testing". More like "KPI's for products or companies".

So it isn't possible to have "good testing" without having "good everything else"?

comment SQL “sandbox” for new QA staff training: DB structure, approach, deployment and maintenance?
Couldn't you just use the scripts for MS-SQL and adapt them to use in your Oracle environment? Or just search and you find links like learndotnetprogramming.com/2007/04/12/…

Just curious - what added benefit would a location provide for issue tracking?

comment Should A Formal Test Plan For Dynamic String Testing Include All Combinations?
Thanks, BJ. The language I was using was a bit casual. Here are some papers that present the thoughts more formally: testingeducation.org/wtst5/PairwisePNSQC2004.pdf csrc.nist.gov/groups/SNS/acts/documents/…

comment Should A Formal Test Plan For Dynamic String Testing Include All Combinations?
You are welcome! Remember, the fact that it is sufficient to rely on just pairs (rather than just singles or higher multiples) is an assumption we make when we choose that path. You might want to validate that assumption for your particular context.

comment Test Data Bank creation: approach, important points, useful links, data generators, file storages?
You are quite welcome. Glad it helps. These sort of "administrative tasks" are a challenge to smaller teams. And for larger teams you have to get to a point where the extra work is worthwhile.

comment Software Testing as a career path? Becoming a test architect
No worries. Software Testing isn't for everyone.
