comment What is the Real Business Value of Software Testing in an IT Project?
Thanks. That comment actually came from a developer that works at a company with 1 person in their QA department. He said they are pretty much begging for more.

As a disclaimer, the examples given may or may not have been detected by better QA practices. Some would not have fallen into the exact scope of QA nor really have been realistically detectable in QA (I mean testing that the sun's beams at a specific angle isn't detected as a nuclear weapon! C'mon man!), however they are more of an example of what can happen when proper procedures and precautions are not taken.

For some homework ask your developers what they think a strong QA is worth. The majority will say they are worth their weight in gold.

comment Managing work-life Balance in QA
Peter, I considered that and I figured the question was better asked here due to wanting the insight from other people in QA and not public, generally development based people. I believe that our positions put us in a different level of responsibility than Development positions. Due to wanting to know how to balance work-life as QA, I figured I would ask the question here. What have other people in the field done to remedy such situations etc etc.

comment Does adding the port number to a URL redirect pose a Security risk?
Great answer. While initially I thought of a potential security risk (security by obfuscation) honestly anyone who would be attempting to attack the service would easily be able to determine the port even if it wasn't the standard port. However for daily users, they would likely see it as either odd or off putting and potentially, the paranoid users, would see it as a security issue for them. Upvoted.

comment from Merchandising Major to QATester
I meant the rant from me, not you. Just bad experiences in the past with the 'tester' label, especially when debating requirements and design flaws with developers and business. Being told 'just a tester' too many times to appreciate being called a tester is all.

The differences between the labels of 'Tester' and 'QA' is a rant for a different place. Typically speaking though the majority of work in QA is a LOT more than testing. If you'd like to identify yourself with the ability to just test after development than that is fine, I prefer to label myself as a person who ensures the quality of the SDLC as a whole though.
