As much as I love to code, my passion is in testing. I truly enjoy when I get to marry the 2.

I'm currently in my ideal setting where 130% of my time is allocated. I get to deploy 2-3 times per week and still work on building new and exciting applications.

I started out testing in the electronic manufacturing field. After a long long break, I ended up moving to a UAT coordinator role at the company that I was with and my passion for testing was ignited. I haven't looked back at other non-testing roles since.

comment How do I convince management that we need a formal QA department?
Maybe I'm too cocky around management, but that's typically when I ask management to explain how a bad business decision was made in a circumstance where they were not aware of an important business unit that it would hinder.

+1 for everything that I would have said but in less space and just as clear. Wish I could add another one for pointing out that we are only human.

comment What kind of testing should a developer do before passing a build to the QA team?
I can't say that I disagree with you Ed. However, the point that I was trying to make was to ensure that the developer has tested it and is reasonably certain that it works before asking for the code to be promoted to a test environment.

Additionally, let your testers know if the code modified is called by or used anywhere else in the application or another application that is integrated. I've seen a few times where a simple change to a variable has broken seemingly completely seperate functionality.

comment Attach to browser not spawned by Selenium2
I spent some time today trying to get this to work, but could only switch to handles of browsers that were opened during the current test execution. I'll sit down with one of my dev's though and see if I can't get this to work still.

comment Where can I find information on getting started with Selenium 2
Being in the exact same boat as Bruce, the first link has very very basic information, and the second link is mainly 'to do'. I'm still finding it more useful to go through the method definitions in the dll's.

Was writing an answer as you posted this. I think that I'm going to see about implementing your solution in my own automation as this seems much more efficient.
