The max number of columns that Excel 2010 can support is 16,384. In the traceability matrix that's generated by excel, each test case is placed in a column.

We have over 20,000 test cases (all of which are hopefully tied to requirements in QC), and are looking to run the traceability matrix generation in QC. Will it work? Will it crash? Will the extra test cases spill over into a second sheet?

If it will not work, is there any other way to easily export this information out of QC to recreate the traceability matrix / pivot table myself?

  • FYI, I'm still waiting for QC access, which is why I was asking what to expect and how to plan accordingly. If no answers are given, I'll post my findings. – rishimaharaj Mar 17 '16 at 16:22
