Having nearly 300 automated UI test cases designed using UIA and MS test for a WPF application, ever since I migrated to Windows 10 machine, all the automated test cases are throwing an exception:

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: Operation timed out. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131505).
  Stack Trace:
    IUIAutomationElement.FindFirstBuildCache(TreeScope scope, IUIAutomationCondition condition, IUIAutomationCacheRequest cacheRequest)
    AutomationElement.FindFirst(TreeScope scope, Condition condition)

I tried increasing the transaction timeout as well but it didn't help. And now test cases are not working even on Windows 7 machine (that I requested to test if this is some OS issue).

System.Windows.Automation.Automation.TransactionTimeout = 140000;

Currently using these packages/references:

  • I'm not a specialist in these tools, but an operation timeout can be caused also by downstream dependencies, inside your SUT. What happens when you stub out the services from your app, leaving only the local UI code to be validated? – João Farias Jun 29 at 7:19
